“The last thing he ever said to me was, 'Just always be waiting for me, and then some night you will hear me crowing.”
Ok, so I struggle putting how I feel into words. I'm not sure why, I just do. So to make sense of it, I write little stories - fairytales really. When you put how you feel into someone else's shoes, it makes it so much easier to deal with.
Once upon a time a girl was playing with the other children in the field. It was a beautiful sunny day and the girl couldn't stop smiling at the sun. Soon, the other children began to get annoyed and threw rocks at the girl to try and stop her from looking around. But even though stone after stone hit the girl, she continued to look around and smile. Eventually the children gave up and left her be.
However, it was only temporary. The children went to a witch who lived on the outskirts of the village. They told the witch about the girl and her smile. The witch went out hunting for the girl and found her still looking at the beautiful sky. The witch called out to her, and when the girl turned around, the witch cursed her blind.
A few years later, and the girl was almost a woman. Without her working eyes, she had had to adjust life as she knew it, the girl stuck to what she knew for fear of getting lost or even just bumping into things.
One day, she heard a man's voice. It was sweet and reassuring. The girl desperately wished that she could see the man it came from, but when she discovered that he was a Prince she put all ideas of that out of her head. It was forbidden to look at a Prince.
Nonetheless, she loved to hear his voice and one day when he announced that he would make her see again she was elated. She didn't think it was possible, but he insisted that it could happen. When he cast the new spell on the girl she was terrified of what she would now be able to see.
And what a sight it was. She couldn't stop smiling. She'd forgotten how blue the sky was and the golden sun. The Prince showed her new sights and soon the girl began to laugh again.
But the girl's joy was short lived. One day when the Prince came to her he said that she had seen too much. He told her that it was dangerous and begged that she close her eyes during the day. He promised her that she could open them at night, but for her own safety she must close her eyes when the sun was out.
The girl was heartbroken. The sun had been absent for so long in her life and now she had to leave it again. Her Prince could not say how long it would be for. He did not know if it would only be for a short while or if it would be forever. Out of the care she felt for her Prince, the girl agreed to be put under a spell that made her blind during the day, and to have the sight during the night.
Even though the Prince said that if he could not ever lift the spell, another would come along who would, the girl didn't want to listen. What if the same thing happened again?
